Transformative Thinking at deTour 2016

BY

November 24th, 2016

deTour 2016 kicked off yesterday, 24 November, at PMQ. Running alongside Business of Design Week each year, deTour is a natural complement to the Hong Kong design conference: it offers an informal and creative space for networking, discovery and dialogue. At this year’s deTour, the theme is Game Changer, and it’s all about disruptors and twisting convention to achieve new innovations.

Organised by PMQ, this art and design showcase will run until 4 December 2016. Installations, design dialogues, exhibitions and workshops are all part of this year’s bigger-and-better-than-ever programme. The event will include 40 to 50 workshops and as many as 60 satellite events, turning Hong Kong into a hub for creativity as the weather cools down.

Artists such as Ryo Otsuka and SOIL and Cotton Car will be exhibiting at deTour; as will architecture and design studios such as AaaM (Architecture as a Medium) and product designers such as Ling Ching-Yin Kat. Homegrown brand G.O.D. will also be inviting visitors to deTour to take part in an interactive showcase inspired by Hong Kong’s historical tenement buildings, or tong lau.

Visiting exhibitors include BlackBOX, a showcase of Melbourne-designed products, brought to Hong Kong by Creative Victoria and the Design Institute of Australia.

deTour 2016 is headquartered at PMQ, 35 Aberdeen Street, Central. The full programme for deTour 2016 and its satellite events – which include arts and music festival Clockenflap – is available on deTour’s website.
