A new seaside restaurant at The Pulse pays tribute to the big blue through design and food. Tamsin Bradshaw checks it out.

Newly opened restaurant The Ocean brings the beachside experience inside – both through the interiors and through the culinary experience, which is all about enhancing the natural flavours of the sea.
The 10,000-square-foot restaurant is one of Le Comptoir Group’s newest F&B offerings; the restaurant group is also responsible for artsy eatery Bibo on Hollywood Road, and TRi, a Balinese dining venue also located at The Pulse in Repulse Bay.
Frosted bubble lamps and curving forms overlook the bay at The Ocean
Situated on the third storey at The Pulse, The Ocean benefits from sweeping views of the beach and water from its floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Substance, a graphic, web and interior design agency, created the interiors, cleverly moulding them to accentuate the ocean views while not sacrificing a beautiful, visually interesting space. Wood, shades of tan and beige and Aegean Sea-blue accents populate the interior, with frosted bubbles of light floating above each table and creating a tranquil underwater experience. A shimmering fish scale motif adorns the ceiling; there is also a crystal bar and a bioluminescent fish tank.
Curvaceous booth seating gives the space an organic, oceanic sense, with walls that gently curve round evoking the curl of waves. The seating, the tables, the hand-made ceramics and the silverware all call to mind coral reefs.

Here, it’s about the beauty of the ocean, and that comes through in both the design and the food. With a menu by Executive Chef Agustin Balbi, The Ocean offers sustainable seafood that has been responsibly sourced – so you can feel good about what you’re eating, as well as enjoying the vibrant, undulating space around you.
The Ocean is located at Shop 303-304, 3/F, The Pulse, 28 Beach Road, Repulse Bay.
