The Project is a major highlight at Hong Kong Indesign: The Event, where Exhibitors partner with designers, architects, visual artists – creatives in any medium – to create exciting installations that showcase products in new conceptual ways.
It’s been one of the most anticipated parts of Indesign events in Singapore and Australia for a decade, and the only brief we give is a theme. For Hong Kong Indesign 2013, the theme is “Rhythm”, which is inspired by Hong Kong’s unique life rhythm and vibrant design pulse.
Make sure you keep an eye out for The Project collaborations, because apart from showcasing high-profile, freewheeling creativity, you can also vote for your favourite collaboration after the event is over.
From installations made of exploded parts of sanitary fittings to ‘art experiences’ that give you a sense of wellbeing, The Project includes the following collaborations:
colourliving has joined forces with Chris Chow Design Associates, a Hong Kong- based design, planning and consulting firm, specially for The Project. The colourliving showroom will house one-of- a-kind installations and art experiences that demonstrate how anyone can bring together individuality, a sense of well- being and tasteful lifestyle into the everyday.
Haworth with M Moser
See how M Moser transforms Haworth’s showroom with a series of dynamic installations that evoke rhythm and movement while celebrating Haworth’s diverse product portfolio in a fun and creative way. The combination of music and visual elements throughout the space will not only stimulate the senses, but will be sure to get the creative juices flowing!
JEB with KplusK Associates
JEB and Woven Image have collaborated with KplusK Associates to create an installation called “Chime Experience”, which is constructed entirely out of Woven Image EchoPanel® environmental screens.
Kokuyo with PDM International
See how PDM International uses two-dimensional forms to create three-dimensional geometric shapes that are representative of the dynamic rhythm and endless possibilities of Kokuyo’s newly released modular sofa unit, Brackets.
Lamex with PSI Asia
Raise your head to take in this installation. Cleverly playing on the theme “Rhythm of Hong Kong”, this collaborative project between Lamex and PSI Asia features a pattern of moving, reflected light on glossy materials on the ceiling, which is dictated by the ebb and flow of the crowd.
Seventhirtyam with David Trubridge
Follow the creative process of New Zealand-based designer David Trubridge in this stunning project – a lighting installation that presents the design process from creative concept to the poetic and elegant final product.

Together with TOPOS Design, VSC/TOTO creates an eye-opening installation crafted from the “exploded parts of sanitary fittings” (see top image). This interactive showcase – aptly named “Exposure|Connections”, encourages you to experience the everyday rhythm of water usage and wastage from a new and engaging perspective.
Wilkhahn and Woven Image with PDM International
The Wilkhahn showroom becomes a ‘Floating Silhouette’ with Woven Image items on display and sculptures made with Wilkhahn furniture.
