HK Design to Connect: DFA Awards Exhibition

Hong Kong Design Centre and MTR Corporation collaborate on an exhibition showcasing some of 2015’s finest designs and some of the city’s top talents.

Anyone who missed the Design for Asia (DFA) Awards last December can catch some of the winning entries on display at HK Design to Connect: DFA Awards Exhibition at ELEMENTS. Organised by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) with the support of the MTR Corporation, the exhibition is part of a series that is intended to create connection between design and community.

HKDC is a non-profit organisation that works in partnership with the HKSAR Government to promote Hong Kong as a hub for design in Asia. The organisation began running the DFA Awards in 2003, in a bid to foster emerging talent and to recognise the hard work of established designers, as well as to pay tribute to projects that have had an impact on our city.

HK Design to Connect: DFA Awards Exhibition is the first in a series of events organised by HKDC, with upcoming events including workshops and seminars. “The exhibition … expands [HKDC’s] efforts to engage the community through the power of design and is also the first event that HKDC and MTR Corporation partner together for the series,” says Eric Yim, Chairman of HKDC. “We both hope to raise the awareness of the importance of design to the society. In the following days, we will continue our partnership to display excellent designs across different locations in Hong Kong.”

As a leading railway operator, MTR Corporation has just set up its Community Connect platform, and this exhibition is a fitting beginning for its efforts to support the arts community in Hong Kong.

Entry deadlines for the DFA Awards 2016 are coming up, too, making this an even more perfect time to be showcasing last year’s winners. Submissions for the DFA Awards will close on 30 June, while submissions for the DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award will close on 28 June.

The exhibition opened with a ceremony on 26 May 2016, which was officiated by Mr Jerry Liu, Head of CreateHK; Mr Eric Yim, Chairman of HKDC; Ms Linda So, Corporate Affairs Director of MTR Corporation; and Mr David Tang, Property Director of MTR Corporation.

HK Design to Connect: DFA Awards Exhibition will be on show at ELEMENTS until 6 June 2016. Entry to the exhibition is free.
